California Solar Schools Initiative

California

The Foundation for Environmental Education, Pacific Gas and Electric, SolarCity, and 450 Architects, Inc. are bringing renewable energy education into under-served school communities across California through highly-visible solar installations. This initiative includes energy training for educators and curriculum relating solar power, students’ day-to-day energy use and the environmental benefits of renewable energy.

Donations from the Foundation for Environmental Education range from small 1.2kW photovoltaic system to larger roof-mounted systems converting sunlight into electricity, saving schools from an ever increasing cost for electricity while providing real-life on-site examples of renewable energy as a learning tool. An online data monitoring system displays each solar arrays energy production in real time.

Through these solar systems we aim to show communities how we can conserve and produce renewable energy and respect the environment.

These installations are integrated into The California Solar Initiative which aims to create 3,000 MW of new, solar-produced electricity by 2016, leading California towards a cleaner energy future and lower costs of solar systems for consumers.

450 Architects is proud to be involved in an effort which engages in community-based and environmentally conscious design that supports civic, business, and community works.
