Tamarind Institute, a division of the College of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico, is a nonprofit center for fine art lithography that trains master printers and houses a professional collaborative studio for artists. Tamarind Institute is recognized internationally for its contributions to the growth of contemporary printmaking. This new 16,000 square foot building will be completed in the summer of 2010, in time for Tamarind’s 50th anniversary celebration. According to the client’s wishes, the building has been designed to meet LEED Silver certification. The new structure includes a number of energy-efficient design features, recycled and locally sourced materials, and a rainwater harvesting system. 450 architects served as the Green Building Consultant on this project, collaborating with Devendra N.
