The Yuba River charter School “endeavors to develop free human beings who, of themselves, are able to impart purpose and direction to their lives.” The school’s mission is to provide a Waldorf methods curriculum to K-8 students using a child development model that nurtures the head, heart, and hands of each individual. 450 architects has been hired to design this unique school. Our goal is to create an inspiring learning environment for all students of YRCS and to ensure that this will be a safe and healthy campus. We believe in community involvement, and we aim to connect children, parents, teachers, staff and the greater community in a positive way for everyone.
450 architects worked with the school community to do a needs assessment, review alternative sites, assist in the preparation of document submittals to state and local agencies, and create a conceptual design that achieves the community’s visions and goals. The campus is set within a beautiful, quiet, natural habitat of towering ponderosa pines, cedars, and lovely foot trails within the Nevada County Irrigation District. The new school building will gracefully follow the contours of its site, be a model of sustainable school construction, and create a central gathering space celebrating the community. Our design of the Yuba River Charter School will provide for the future growth and adaptation to see this school long into the future.
