David Bushnell

For over 20 years, David was co-founder and principal of 450 Architects.  David’s work was recognized with regional and international awards, in San Francisco, New York, Seattle, and Switzerland.  He was responsible for the design and construction administration for a variety of projects, ranging from large-scale commercial projects to small-scale interiors, including educational, institutional, industrial and commercial buildings, housing, and renovation projects.  David’s collaborative approach yielded design solutions that were inspired by thoughtful understanding of projects, innovation and sustainability thate developed consensus and unique solutions tailored to each project. His latest projects included the LEED Gold Certified San Francisco Waldorf High School, San Francisco Unified School District’s first solar powered school – the Argonne Child Development Center, and a private residence that integrated the first rainwater harvesting system for domestic use in the State of California.  David was also most active in his community, serving on the Board of Directors of Architects Designers Planners for Social Responsibility, working to support environmental protection, ecological building, social justice and the development of healthy communities. His academic experience included a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University, teaching design at the Swiss Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland, and was a visiting critic at Columbia University and MIT.  David is missed with each day 450 Architects continues to carry on.
